The Italian National Bibliography

The Italian National Bibliography (BNI) collects Italian publications on the basis of items sent for legal deposit by publishers to the National Central Library of Florence in compliance with the relative regulations.

The Italian National Bibliography

Informazioni generali

The BNI contains information on publications from the current year, in order of arrival, as well as for publications from up to two years prior.
The Italian National Bibliography is organised into 4 series of files, available in PDF format:

  • Monographs (monthly)
  • Printed music (weekly)
  • Periodicals (every six months)
  • Doctoral theses (every six months)

Each series can be searched by year and file, organised and available for consultation by Dewey Decimal Classification number, with indices by title, author-person, author-organisation, collection, subject and topics. The indices by subject link to the relative terms in the new subject indexing system.

The entries for publications catalogued in the BNI can also be viewed from the online catalogue of the National Central Library of Florence and from the catalogue of the National Library Service.
Each entry in the Italian National Bibliography is identified with a code (e.g.: BN 2018-9372) comprised of the letters B(ibliografia) N(azionale) followed by the year and the progressive entry number.

Certain types of publication are not generally recorded in the BNI.
