Guided tours
As part of its institutional role in enhancing and furthering knowledge of the library, the BncF organises and promotes guided tours targeted at a range of user types.
General information
The guided tours are for:
- associations
- institutions
- students attending the final two years of upper secondary school
- universities
- groups of more than ten people
The tour includes a presentation of the history of the library and of the collections, both antique and modern, that make up the most significant portion of its priceless heritage. During the tour, participants are taken to see particularly fascinating areas of the library that are usually out of bounds.
Extensive information is provided on access to the library, the organisation of services, the use of catalogues, the library collections and the use of materials.
On request, detailed sessions can be organised on specific themes and subjects.
Requests for guided tours can be made by writing to bnc-fi.visiteguidate@cultura.gov.it or by completing the online Ask the librarian form.
Requests must specify the number and affiliation of the people within the group, as well as provide an indication of the period in which the tour is to take place.
Further information on how to reserve guided tours and the relative costs is set on in art. 26 of the regulations for the granting of use of spaces, for reproduction fees and for the educational services of the National Central Library of Florence.
For universities
The library also promotes awareness of its heritage through collaboration with Italian and foreign institutions and organisations and through specific initiatives, as well as by welcoming internships and apprenticeships through agreements with universities.
In particular, internships:
- are organised for students enrolled in degree courses, master’s degrees, research doctorate courses and specialist institutions.
- form part of the relative curriculum and take place while attending the relative course, even if not directly for the purpose of university education credits.
- are regulated, including in terms of duration, by the internal regulations of each university, in accordance with relative national legislation.
A project is set up for each intern accepted by the host organisation.
